Training Courses

Simon Medhurst has over 18 years’ experience in developing and presenting bespoke training courses in the field of stack-emission monitoring and was formerly Training Manager at EMC Environment Engineering Ltd. Courses have ranged in duration from one day to three weeks. Previous clients include:

  • Environment Agency
  • University of Leeds
  • Source Testing Association
  • Thames Water
  • Scientifics Group
  • Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution
  • Numerous UK blue-chip companies

Current provision of training is often in conjunction with the Source Testing Association.

This includes MCERTS related training courses such as Level 1, Level 2 and Risk Assessment as well as other courses such as Regulatory Monitoring Requirements.

Courses provided to blue-chip clients include guidance on the Environment Agency Operator Monitoring Assessment (OMA) scheme and conducting OMA 'pre-audits' to identify areas of improvement which can lead to a higher score when the official OMA audit is performed.

Simon is also involved heavily in the Environment Agency Mcerts scheme and offers one-day Introduction to Stack-Emissions Monitoring and Introduction to Mcerts course.

'Simon’s  presentation was very eloquent, and he put over the facts in a very fluent and well expressed style'.   Environmental Scientifics Group, Sep 2012.

Stack Monitoring Inspections

Simon spent almost 20 years in the CRE stack-emission monitoring team. One of his principal duties was the inspection of stack-emission monitoring facilities as part of site reviews to pave the way for subsequent practical emission monitoring work. The number of sites visited in the UK and overseas runs into hundreds. This work culminated in a large project carried out on behalf of the Environment Agency to assess the suitability of stack-emission monitoring facilities and degree of compliance with published guidance from a range of IPC sites.

Environmental Permitting Regulations

Most EPR Permits stipulate that MCERTS-approved services, equipment and facilities are used for all environmental monitoring work. Simon can provide guidance on how to interpret the regulations and comply with EPR permit requirements. This can include the provision of training courses covering regulatory monitoring requirements for example the Environment Agency Operator Monitoring Assessment Scheme (OMA).
